Members of Gnod, Action Beat and hip-hop duo Dälek team up in a fresh band Holy Scum, and we can now listen to their new single 'A World About To Die', taken from their upcoming album Strange Desires, set to be released on Rocket Recordings. Born out of extended jams in a Victorian mill the band specialise in making relentless industrial noise, the new track is built around a repetitive sludgey bass groove with fuzzed and perpetually feedbacking guitars battling each other for position and Mike Mare's (Mike Manteca) guttural growl stalks the edges of the track. Mare describes the lyrics and the writing process, “All of the lyrics revolve around the collapse of society, feeling numb watching it happen, what it's like on the other side communicating with the dead and looking to other worlds for relief. These were the ideas flowing through my head as I freestyled the vocal tracks, definitely inspired a lot by 2020 but also by a lifetime of curiosity about speaking with the dead.” Check out the strobe heavy video below. -Toby Evans-Jesra
